Life in the UK test booking essentials
The Life in the UK test currently costs £50 and must be booked at least three days in advance. The official service lets you choose from more than 30 UK test centres. You will need an email address, a debit or credit card and an accepted form of identification.
Use only the official Life in the UK test service on GOV.UK. Other websites may charge extra or present themselves as booking agents, but GOV.UK identifies its service as the only official government booking route.

How to book your test

Open the official booking service
Start from GOV.UK and follow its booking link. Avoid advertisements or third-party websites that appear above the official result in a search engine.

Prepare an accepted identity document
You may be able to use an eVisa share code, a valid passport, an eligible European national identity card or a valid photo travel document. The current rules also contain a temporary provision for some recently expired biometric residence permits and cards. Read the official identification requirements before booking.

Enter your personal details exactly
The name and other details in the booking must match the identification you will use. Even a small mismatch can prevent you from taking the test.

Choose a test centre and appointment
Search the available centres and choose a date and location you can reach reliably. Allow for travel disruption and check the centre address in your confirmation.

Request reasonable adjustments if needed
The booking process allows you to state disability-related or other special requirements. Make the request while booking so arrangements can be considered before test day.

Pay and save the confirmation
Pay the £50 fee by debit or credit card. Keep the confirmation email and review the date, time, address and identity document shown in it.
Changing or cancelling a booking
Under the current official policy, you can receive a refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the test. If you cancel or rearrange within three days, you will normally lose the fee. Being late, arriving with the wrong identification, missing required documents or refusing the test-day photograph are also not normally grounds for a refund.

What to bring on test day
Bring the same original identity document used for the booking. Copies and screenshots are not accepted in place of the original document. A photograph will be taken at the centre. Children and other family members cannot accompany you into the test.
The test has 24 questions and lasts 45 minutes. A score of 75% is required to pass, which means answering at least 18 questions correctly. If you pass, keep the unique reference number you receive because it is used for a citizenship or settlement application.
